How to Delete or Remove Third-Party Facebook Applications and Websites

Published by Timothy Tibbetts on 09/29/2019

Facebook users find over time that they give a lot of third-party applications and websites access. Over time, this list can become massive. And, as we've learned over time, many of these apps and websites have been busted harvesting your data. Here's how you can clean up your list and get some of your privacy (sanity) back.

Open your Facebook page and click on the downward arrow key to the top right to access Facebook settings. Click on Settings > Apps and Websites.

Note: Some people, are clicking on their browser settings. You need to open Facebook and go to Facebook settings or watch the video above.

Beginning at the top, you will see a list of apps and websites you've recently used. You can check as many apps as you like here, then press Remove. Be sure to look for the Show all link that expands the list as you only see the first nine websites or applications. Sneaky.

Additionally, you can click View and edit to edit the permissions you allowed initially.

When you click on Remove, also be sure to check the box that says "Also delete all posts, photos, and videos on Facebook that APPNAME may have published on your behalf." Sneaky.

But, wait, there's more! If you check up top, you'll see two additional tabs - Expired and Removed. Removed means you removed those apps. But, Expired, not so much. Expired just means you haven't used them in some time. These must be looked at because the accounts are active, and they still have your posts, data, and whatever else. Sneaky.

You can also disable interaction with Apps, Websites and Games as well as disable Game and App Notifications. The buttons say Edit, but in reality, it's all or nothing.

We can't help but take a minute to remind you to be careful who you give access to on Facebook. You might have noticed the warning when you removed an app that the developer or website still might have your information. You'd have to go to every app or website to see their privacy policy about your data, which usually ends in "you agreed to" so remember that information about you is out there... forever.

We hope we helped you take back some of your privacy and control.
